WILDLIFE

Twins

A morning walk near trichy.

Found these two young farm horses on the way to Trichy near a small village called Meganayakkam Patti.

We stopped for a short break near a ploughed field and these two young horses emerged after a few moments. I tried to inch my way closer to them but they shied away pretty quickly and this shot is where one of the two turn back to see if i was still following them.

Egrets

These birds are commonly found in the tropics often along marshy swamp lands. They are usually sited along cattle as they feed off of the insects that emerge when the cattle agitates the swamp.

This shot was taken in the first light as one of the birds landed from another spot, right out side my house in chennai.

Territorial Brawl

When wings turn into blades

Deceivingly harmless, Egrets tend to get pretty aggressive when it comes to territory.

Two Cattle Egrets fight over their territory where the bird on top is the one defending and the bird below is the intruder.

Baby birds

Darknecked Tailor bird

Inside the nest of a Darknecked Tailor bird :- four of these little ones snuggle in a very small nest .

This nest was close to my house and was in constant danger of snakes eating them. Nurturing and protecting them was a tough job but it all pays off when you hear thier chirps in the morning .

The mother bird

The mother bird with its catch watches for predators that follow it to find the nest. These birds build strong coordination with the other birds in the locality and when ever they see a dangerous animal such as snake or a cat, they all shout together until the the babies are out of danger.

My mother keenly listens to these birds and immediately responds to their call since the nest was in our backyard. Usually its snakes and cats that alert these birds.
